M.R. Mold & Engineering Inc. has added a 120-ton Engel e-Victory injection molding machine for mold trials on liquid silicone rubber applications.

Now, M.R. Mold of Brea, Calif., operates six LSR-dedicated presses of 55-120 tons. Engel, Arburg and KraussMaffei manufactured the machines.

In addition to LSR capability, three of the machines have barrels for processing thermoplastics. Screw sizes range from 15-35 millimeters.

During the summer, M.R. Mold is providing five-week engineering and software internships to three seniors from Brea Olinda High School.

Each intern went through an interview process and spends four hours on each of two days per week at the plant. They work with the firm's mold makers and software programming personnel.

The students participate in the high school's Global Information Technology Academy, which receives assistance from industry experts and university specialists in supporting advanced mathematics and sciences courses over four years. Subjects include coding basics, computer programming including the Java language and webpage multimedia design.

Again in October, M.R. Mold will provide sessions on one or more days during Manufacturing Day, which the Washington-based National Association of Manufacturers annually produces.

M.R. Mold was host to 300 students and faculty members from seven schools for the 2017 Manufacturing Day program. At one point, management staff and lead mold makers were conducting five simultaneous tours with a separation time of five minutes between stations.

Again, the Indianapolis-based American Mold Builders Association authorized a $1,500 grant to help pay for the students' bus transportation to and from the M.R. Mold plant.

M.R. Mold has upgraded its marketing messages.

Creative Technology Corp. of Carol Stream, Ill., made the improvements to the firm's website, related videos and printed brochures.

M.R. Mold employs 30 and occupies 16,500 square feet.
